For less than ten dollars a month, I can have 10 GB of disk space on a web host’s server, 500 GB transfer, email accounts, databases, forums, blogs, photo galleries, etc. What can an individual do with such storage capacities and technical supports? Can a personal website become a hub around which she can create, organize, use, and re-use personal information resources?
I want to find out by reflecting on my own practice. More specifically, I want to answer the following questions:
- What personal tasks or decisions will be supported by an integration of textual, pictorial, audio and other information resources within the space of a personal website?
- What larger projects or systems (e.g. family vacation plans, product development cycles at work, community projects) are these personal tasks or decisions part of?
- How can I define the creation, control, quality, use, re-use, and security of information on my personal website to support my roles in projects?
